good list guys. Jimmy Page is the guy who lit my fire. I love David Gilmour. He seems to put the emotion of the song into his guitar. I am a bass player so i love Rush and have learned to appreciate Alex Lifeson more and more through the years and Limelight is a terrific song. Hendrix is Hendrix-definitely one of the greatest. I'm not much of one to dog on guys I don't like but yall are definitely listing a bunch of the guys I DO like. I don't know if Joe Walsh has been mentioned or Peter Green but those two are pretty good too. It's a long list of guys who deserve merit in one sense or another but I like where this is going because yall aren't saying such and such sucks when somebody says they respect them. :-)

HeY! I'm somewhat new here. Here is an abstract rendition of Little Wing.

I agree with Franky M., Ty Tabor is one of the better guitarists out there.

i have a great addition (5 hours later , as it were) to this list of guitarists w/ depth... man i dunno what you guys think of Ty Tabor of KINGS X but aside from being a fantastic lead player w/ all the fire and skill of a vai or satriani but it goes unseen somehow , he also has a quite awesome MICHEAL SCEHENKER graceful vibrato and an amazing abilty to burn that somehow goes quite overlooked , he is a team player w/ what seems like quite the perfectionist attitude (w/out seeming so) insanely great at what he does which may be why he flies under the radar as low as does , he's terribly graceful , and has the abilty to burn bigtime but rarely does like a neal schon (if i may list another guilty pleasure of a lead guitarist) but , i dunno , like "i could see eric clapton" going home at night kicking up his heels and tuning out the world by listening to a Kings X disc" , getting caught by his butler and imeadiately swiching discs over to some awesome robert johnson tune like "from four untill late"...
but if you've not yet heard Kings X , i'd check em out...

limelight by rush gets a vote from me for note value... what a beautiful intro hanging on tha open B string and carefully maintaining slow use of the wammy bar... the list is ongoing...

honorable mention for a solo that is perfect w/in some imperfections which gives it more of a bluesy vibe... that is impotant cuz this song is
in fact a blues in C min... THE HONORABLE MENTION GOES ONCE MORE TO
JIMMY PAGE FOR "Since I've Been Loving You" it's such a beautiful solo in the sense that it holds onto the bluesiest gritty vibe while maintaing beautiful modal applications from the (C) aeolian mode... jimmy was a bluesmaster who not unlike HENDRIX (MY KING OF KINGS) used so many of his own eccentricities while maintaining great passion for tha music that inspired 90% of LED ZEPPELINS catalog... you see guys trying it now likt tom morello and something about him bugs me w/ that whammy pedal , it can be an inspiring tool and it is when vai uses it but... jimmy page , they don't make em like jimmy page no more fellahz !

STROGLY AGREE W/ MARK THOMPSON , Hotel California is perhaps theee most perefect solo eeever recorded or performed live... every single note in that solo could never be replace by another note , and even some of the truely greatest solos have some spots that could in fact have better notes here or there , heres an example "you guys might slay me for it" , but "achillies last stand" brilliant solo right , of course but there are one maybe two bends that fall short on pitch which some might say adds to
it's quality... and while i somewhat agree (given the fact that mistakes can often aadd much color and flavor) that said , sorry but , there is nothing like a well crafted & perfectly notated solo... "Stairway to Heaven" is another solo that could never be replaced by any other notes , in my mind hotel and stairway get the top 2 ...

David Gilmour is an amazing "feel player" i think. I cant get bored of any solos of his.
I think Guthrie Govan is also an amazing player. He can shred but also put meaning and depth into his songs, especially when he improvises which is all about feel and touch. Also check out myspace.com/adamleeguitarist the guy is really impressive.
Stairway to heaven is the holy grail of guitar solos, for the reason it was a second take improv and is perfect in every way for the song.

re; hotel california..what a solo , i never liked anything else they did but thats a "chune"
satriani is the most soulfull deep player in the space rock genre

phill keaggy is the acoustic and electricchristian one
putrucci for prog
larry carlton/roben ford for gospel/jazz
