I'm really a soundman by trade, but I love messing around with guitars and find playing keeps me sane. My father(Jim Parsons) was Connie Smiths leadman for many years and played with just about everyone in the Nashville circle(including Chet), so I guess you could say it's in the blood!(although I'm nowhere near as talented as he was) I really can't play a lead to save my ass, but I'm pretty solid as a rhythm player. I have a Epiphone '56 goldtop, a Douglas Shadow goldtop, a SX strat copy(with a Gibson style bridge),and a Squire strat, My amp is somewhat of a rare bird...A '72 Earth Revival. It's a clone of the '55 Fender Twin and with 4 6l6's pumpin' about 100 watts, it rocks!! I use a Boss VF-1, Alesis Microverb, a "real" Thomas Organ Co. Crybaby, and a Marshall ED-1 compressor for F/Xs. I like playing R&B,classic rock, and country. I've run sound for 30+ years and have mixed several national bands and worked for 10 years with David "Rook" Goldflies (former Allman Brothers bassist). Nowadays I'm happy to have a house gig in Oxford Ohio and I get to work with some pretty talented kids. If you want to hear some of them, you can hit me up on www.myspace.com/oxfordaudio to find their pages. I'll "friend" you too as long as you don't send any of that " I just bought you" crap...lol. Just let me know you read this when you want the add...k? I'll update this blog when new gear comes along or I get a really cool gig that I just have to take!(I still have a tour or two still in me!) Peace...Doug 8-8-08... New gear time!!! I found an old Gretsch amp that was in the basement of a local music store since 1975. It says "Broadkastor" Model 7875. This amp is mint! (pics soon!) Anyone know anything about 'em? For a solid-state, it sounds pretty cool. 3-28-09...Been working with a Marshall "Jackhammer" over-drive pedal. So far, so good. In fact, now I want to go ahead and get a real Marshall amp...lol. ( my wife thinks I've lost my mind...she may be right!) 6-14-09...on a trade, I got a '71 Ampeg GT-10. Although this little guy sounds great, he was kinda sad looking. But with some TLC and a "bit" of cleaning, it's turned out to be quite the gem it was meant to be.1-6-10...heh,heh,heh...got that Marshall amp! Ok, it's just a little MGmsII, but here's the kicker...instead of using the 2 10" speakers, I wired up a Guitar Research 4x8 cabinet to work in place. combined with a Marshall Ed-1 compressor and the Jackhammer pedals, I think I have a fairly ballsie little rig now that is pretty easy to pack.

I have an Earth 2x15 bass cab that weighs about 3 tons. Sturdy though.

I hadn't heard of the BroadKaster by Gretsch, but I'd sure like to run across one, too. They sued Leo Fender & G&L back in 1985 when Leo released his Broadcaster - an all black Tele-style guitar. Gretsch said they had the rights to the name and Leo's was too close. So, Leo backed off and stopped production after only 869 Broadcasters were made, just to avoid litigation. Truth is, if the litigation had actually taken place, Gretsch would have lost since the registration on the name "Broadkaster" had expired. BUT, what happened is that Leo got a lot of publicity over it and his Broadcaster became a very collectible Special Edition.... now worth triple their cost 20 years ago. I have one, do you? Ole Carl Perkins sure did some talkin' with his.

Dude I thought I was the only guy who owned an earth amp. I have an old solid state 45 watt earth that I've owned for 30+ years. I don't use it much since i'm a bass player but i have a '76 gibson marauder that i dink around on occasionally. Anyways keep us posted on what you're up too. I'd love to see more posts on this site. I just like talking music and guitars. Talk to you later.

Peace
Roger

I've added a few tunes ("My Audio") that my father recorded. He recorded these songs 2 years before he passed on in 2005.

for those wondering who Pete Drake is, he was a steel player from Nashville who invented the "talk box".
